Claire Kuchel-Klassen is our Senior Support worker at the Vulcan and Region FCSS. She is available 4 days a week, Monday to Thursday, from 9 am to 3 pm. Assistance is available for filling out government forms such as Old Age Security, CPP, Alberta Seniors Benefits and other senior programs. As an advocate to seniors, the Senior Support Worker can help with letter writing, retirement questions and education. Children of the seniors can contact Claire about ways to help reduce caregiver burnout, things they can do to help their parents and the services available in the community for them. Mediation between the family can be arranged.
The Alberta Seniors Benefits and Community Supports pamphlets and applications are available in the office as well as access to CPP, OAS and GIS forms.
Different activities throughout the year are arranged to help seniors and youth together. We have focused on increasing intergenerational programming over the past five years. Our Youth/Senior Golf Tournament is a growing success and is a fantastic way to get the youth and seniors out playing.
FCSS hosts an annual Senior’s Conference in June. Guest speakers present current senior concerns and activities are available.
